So yesterday the wife calls JetStar (Australian airline) to enquire if one
of the 4 flights (wife, two kids and myself) we have booked for today can be changed to the day after. I needed to stay an extra day in Sydney for business. (The flights weren’t cheap either this time of year). We know it’s within the 24 hour period but thought we’d try….you sometimes get good people. “Not a problem” the lovely lady on the phone tells my wife. “We’ll just need to know when you want to use that flight”. Wife calls me on the phone and I suggest a date sometime later this year as they did not have a flight out for me tomorrow. So wife books a flight on another airline – $300 odd bucks. She calls back JetStar who confirm the change will be no problem to a flight later in the year, but that for some reason, I had to actually call them to confirm the change in flight details. “It won’t be a problem!” I get home, call JetStar and speak to a “gentleman” who tells me I cannot do it. After explaining about the previous 2 calls, with disdain, I am told, too bad, they were wrong! Stupid me suggested I’ll call back and take my chances with someone more pleasant like my wife had spoken too on the previous two calls. Should have known – he proudly proceeded to tell me that he would put a comment on the booking to ensure no one else would make the change per chance I got someone with some Christmas spirit and decency. Sure enough, wife calls again, explains that we would not have changed the ticket and bought another one if we had not been told and then confirmed in a second call that it was okay! (The dude had put a comment on the system – probably something nasty). So $300 odd bucks wasted. Anyway, I wish that miserable sod at JetStar a lovely Christmas…..I am sure he’ll move up in life to be a parking inspector one day and thoroughly enjoy it! He seemed the type.
December 23, 2007

Coincidentally, a whole segment on radio this morning was dedicated to how bad JetStar is. Not surprising it’s the most complained about airline. At least I know I will never ever fly with them again.
Yes Draz, the Grinch is alive and well — and working in a Jetstar call centre. I had a similar experience with them a couple of days ago. I booked return legs from Melbourne for my lady and I… then realised I’d booked the flights in the wrong direction.
I rang them up within 30 seconds of hitting the “process payment” button and asked them to alter the booking to the same flight in the other direction — the tickets were the same price.
They stung me with $24 in fees.
Without doubt the worst airline in the country. I’ve always found Virgin Blue much more accommodating.
Well I booked a $500.00 flight to Tokyo and I tried for 3 days to change the flight and I could not get through to the bloody call centre to change my flight. My net was down and I lost out on that flight. TARDS
Jetstar, like many other Australian companies, is treating the Australian public like the fools that they are. Jetstar is the a con. They would have you believe that they are doing you a favour by offering cut price rates. What a load of garbage. Sure, they are offering cut rate prices, but consider this: you don’t get any inflight refreshments unless you pay for they, you have to pay for video entertainment that is provided via a receiver that you must rest on your knee.
My wife and stepson recently flew to Thailand for a return cost of $1200 odd per person, they were not seated together, they had to pay an additional $60 for inflight meals – one of which consisted of a warm pie -, they also had to pay for the so-called inflight entertainment and were generally treated like sheep.
On the other hand,I followed them to Thailand a few days later, but unlike them I flew with Singapore Airlines for a return price of $1200 odd. For that I received inflight meals on each leg of the flight, a personal entertainment screen, a continual offer of refreshments in the form of orange juice, water, tea and coffee. I was treated with respect by a very professional cabin service team and enjoyed a very comfortable flight.
Jetstar are not giving you discounted flights, they are just removing services, and making you pay for them, to arrive at what appear to be discounts. Not really discount fares and very dishonest.
